“Town Plan Booth”
1994
Here’s one from the past: In the early 90s, as our island gentrified, it was clear Vashon needed some town planning. A hard-working Town Plan committee was formed under Martin Baker’s leadership, and the “fun” began. I volunteered to build a mobile, faux living room to display concepts and capture public comments. It moved monthly, from Becks (I’m dating myself) to Thriftway and back. The little writing desk and ledger book, linked with headline questions and telephone pole prompts, collected a couple hundred pages of very helpful input, which was then adopted by the King County Council. The red chair? Still in my studio.
Was this art or display? I like this undefined boundary area.
