Bruce Morser: A Retrospective

VCA Gallery April 4-27

First Friday Reception April 4th at 5pm
Gallery Hours: Wed-Sun 12-5pm

I love a sharp pencil. The simplest tool but capable of creating so much. The vast majority of my work is basically drawing. From detailed technical illustrations, to portraits, to storybooks, to large 3-dimensional installations, it’s all just a zillion-little-lines trying to organize themselves into a story. Art, for me, has been less about making “pieces of art” and more as a way to converse with people about what we all see in the world.

“If I Only Had a Brain”
A Talk On Creativity

VCA Theater - Wednesday, April 16 | 7:30pm

Bruce Morser once pondered, “Ever notice how the Scarecrow worries about not having a brain but cleverly solves a ton of problems? Creativity is hard to locate—difficult to pin down. Its source is everywhere, almost scary, like vague flashes of lightning through a dense evening fog. My best ideas seem to come from behind me. I feel but rarely see them.”
Using examples from his retrospective exhibition in the VCA Gallery (through April), Bruce will describe his own unschooled approach to creativity: a joyful, life-long pursuit of making original stuff.

All proceeds will be donated to Vashon Center for the Arts
