Scientific American
Pencil on Film
2004
10.5” x 10.5” (Framed 13.5” x 13.5”)
I’m still a little sad about this one. Scientific American requested a self-made muscle man for the cover of their magazine. A remarkable young guy at Seattle’s Gold‘s Gym agreed to pose for me. Wonderful person who was rightfully proud of what he created on just carbs, protein, and work outs, no cheating for him. When the issue was finally published, I was horrified to read my image was connected to an article about steroids. It was very hard to let the model know. I couldn’t apologize enough, at least his name was not connected. Curiously, I almost never get to read the article I’m illustrating for before I draw the images. Writers and illustrators are usually working full speed at the same time.
