Pencil on Paper

Illustrators are not strangers to all-nighters. I received a call at 4 PM asking if I could draw “an enticing ice cream cone, any flavor.” “Sure – when will you need it?“ “Tomorrow before noon.“ “Okay.“ This was 1986, before Google Image search, before the Internet, and before desktop computers, so gathering reference meant a trip to Baskin Robbins (even though the client was Horlicks ice cream). Many people have commented on the little hanging piece of ice cream on the lower right. I wanted to engage the viewer, so I added something that needed a quick lick.
